Seventy
_
South Shields District Hospital, 2019
Created for South Tyneside to mark the 70th anniversary of the NHS, Seventy is permanently situated in South Tyneside District Hospital. Working alongside Age Concern South Tyneside, WHIST (Women’s Health in South Tyneside) and Young Health Ambassadors, as well as hospital patients and staff Bethan collected stories, experiences, hopes and concerns of local residents to create a large artwork, cut from a single piece of paper, that celebrates the history and development of the NHS.
The design looks at first glance like an anatomical study and transforms into a celebration of the NHS and its evolution over the years. The organs represent key stories, places and events related to the NHS. Acknowledged within the work are the many staff, on every level of the NHS who contribute to the health service and patients too to acknowledge that we are all responsible for caring for the NHS, as it cares for us.
