Wild Skies

_

Nightfall festival, Middlesborough 2022

Commissioned by Stellar Projects and Borderlands for Nightfall 2022. Visitors explored a light trail through Stewart Park to a giant spinning chandelier sited in the stone ‘temple’. Wild Skies told the stories of changing Teesside skies through light and shadow, celebrating the nature, architecture, industry, and community of the area.

The work was developed alongside groups from Teesside who highlighted the important places and heritage of the Tees Valley. Exploring drawing, papercutting and shadow play, participants helped create imagery for the final work including recently demolished buildings from the steel industry such as the iconic Dorman Long building and the blast furnace at Redcar. These works were cut into wood and displayed alongside ‘Wild Skies’

A review of the festival (Wild Skies at Number 4 ) can be read here

Participants included Inward Bound, Middlesbrough Community Inclusion Service, Glow Projects–Rubies, 1st Skelton Guides, Bellemy Court residents, Tuned In and Generation Climate Action.
